Career change isn't a leap - it's a season of growth

This weekend, nature had a few quiet reminders for me.

In nature, everything moves at its own pace. There’s no rushing, no comparison and no second-guessing.
This weekend was the ideal reminder. I spent time walking with friends, soaking up the spring blossom, the sunshine, and everything else this woodland garden had to offer. (Fitbit tells me we clocked up a not-too-shabby 8,876 steps in a couple of hours, and found ourselves firmly in its good books😊).
Beyond the step count, being outside was a much-needed antidote to being desk-bound. Fresh air, a few unexpected sculptures along the way — and of course, a hearty and well-earned pub lunch.
Among the sculptures was a line of stone faces, all gazing westward towards the setting sun. It felt like a quiet reminder: endings are a natural part of the journey too and often, they make space for something new to begin.
Fresh shoots and new ideas
Back at my desk, ideas are flowing and so are a few deeper reflections. How closely our career journeys mirror what’s happening in gardens everywhere, my own included.
The vibrant colours, fresh shoots and new blossoms of spring only appear after a quieter, less visible process: shedding old petals, lying dormant, preparing for something new to emerge.
It's easy to celebrate the flowers when they arrive. We forget how much unseen work comes first.
Career transitions feel a lot like that.
Each time I moved into a new role, it was the shedding of the previous one that made space for growth. It often didn't happen overnight, but when I was ready, when I'd given myself space, the next season always seemed to unfold in its own way, at its own pace.
Nature teaches us that change is messy, unpredictable, and completely natural.
So if you find yourself standing at a career crossroads and feeling uncertain, hopeful, maybe even a little restless, it might just be time for your own season of change. 🌿
🍃 I work 1:1 with people navigating moments just like this.
If you’re curious about what’s next for you, send me a DM; I’d love to explore it together.
